JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir General Secretary and former Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria, felicitated Sandhya Dhar, a resident of Gangyal, Jammu, and extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to her for her remarkable contribution to society.
Speaking on the occasion, Billawaria said that Sandhya Dhar, despite being a person with a disability herself, has been working with dedication for the rights, dignity, equal opportunities and empowerment of persons with disabilities for a long time. In recognition of her commendable social contribution, she has already been honoured with the prestigious âNari Shakti Puraskarâ by the Honâble President of India. In view of her dedicated social service and commitment towards the disadvantaged sections of society, she was also specially invited by the Honâble President to the âAt Homeâ ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Billawaria said that Sandhya Dharâs achievement is not merely an achievement for Gangyal or Jammu city, but a matter of pride for the entire Jammu and Kashmir. He said that her efforts to secure rights, dignity and self-reliance for persons with disabilities are an inspiration for generations to come.
He further said that the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strengthened the spirit of âSabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayasâ and promoted a new culture of recognising talent, service and dedication. National honours such as the Nari Shakti Puraskar convey the message that the Modi government has given special attention to the rights, accessibility, self-reliance and social participation of persons with disabilities. In such an environment, the recognition of social workers like Sandhya Dhar is certainly an inspiration for society as a whole.
Targeting the Congress, Billawaria said that during the tenure of previous Congress governments, there were often allegations of political and class-based bias in the matter of national honours and recognition at the governmental level, due to which many deserving individuals engaged in selfless grassroots service could not receive the recognition they deserved. He said that under the Modi government, âwhat matters more than which ideology a person is associated with is what the individual has contributed to society and the nation.â
Extending his best wishes to Sandhya Dhar for a bright future, Billawaria expressed hope that she would continue to raise her voice strongly for the rights and welfare of disadvantaged and needy sections of society.
