In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

KATRA: A grand Shobha Yatra was organised in the holy town of Katra today as part of the ongoing Navratra Festival 2026, witnessing enthusiastic participation from devotees, pilgrims and local residents. Chief Principal Census Officer and Director Census Operations Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Amit Sharma graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Sharma said that religious and cultural events play an important role in preserving cultural heritage and strengthening social harmony. He observed that such occasions bring people closer and help preserve traditional values. He also appreciated the unwavering faith and devotion of pilgrims towards Mata Vaishno Devi.

The Shobha Yatra commenced in the evening and passed through the main market of Katra. Decorated chariots carrying the idol of Mata Vaishno Devi was the major attraction, while devotees sang bhajans and participated in devotional activities. Traditional music, devotional hymns, spiritual recitations and colourful decorations added to the grandeur of the Shobha Yatra.

The Navratra Festival brought Katra’s vibrant religious and cultural heritage into focus, highlighting the town’s importance as a prominent pilgrimage hub. Comprehensive arrangements were put in place to ensure the smooth organisation of festival events and the well-being of devotees and visitors.
