• While Jammu's Khail Gawoun flourishes, Kashmir's Sports hub proposal remains in limbo; Peer Bilal urges immediate action to harness region's sporting potential

SRINAGAR: DPAP senior leader Peer Bilal demanded establishment of a multiple sports facility center (Khail Gawoun) in Srinagar, modeled after the one in Nagrota, Jammu. This demand highlights the need for equal investment in sports infrastructure in Kashmir, which has been neglected despite its immense talent. Government of India establishmed Khail Gawoun in every capital city of the State or UT, accordingly a big chunck of land on the banks of the Tawi was developed as Khail Gawoun while as the land for Kashmir's Khail Gawoun is yet to be identified.

Peer emphasized that Kashmir has tremendous potential in sports, but the lack of basic infrastructure hinders its growth. He pointed out that the proposal to utilize 500 kanals of land at Chandpora Harwan, Srinagar, for the Khail Gawoun project has been pending for years.

The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has been vocal about various issues in Jammu and Kashmir, including the need for better infrastructure and opportunities for the youth. Bilal's demand for a Khail Gawoun center in Srinagar is a step towards promoting sports development and encouraging talented athletes in the region. Peer alleged that various sports fields which includes Khimber, Darbagh, Dara, Zakoora, Wanihama were taken for upgradation are incomplete from last one decade.
