BANDIPORA: The Sericulture Development Department, Bandipora, today commenced a three-day Capacity Building Programme for 20 sericulture farmers, including tribal, general and women farmers, under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) for the year 2026-27.

The programme is being conducted under the guidance of District Sericulture Officer, Bandipora, with the objective of strengthening the technical knowledge and skills of sericulture farmers and promoting the adoption of improved and scientific practices in silkworm rearing and mulberry cultivation.

As part of the capacity-building initiative, solar lanterns are being provided to the participating farmers to facilitate silkworm rearing activities and provide an efficient and environment-friendly source of lighting, particularly during power interruptions and extended working hours.

During the three-days programme, the participating farmers will be imparted training on scientific silkworm rearing practices, improved mulberry cultivation, maintenance of Silkworm rearing houses, disease and pest management, hygiene, use of modern rearing appliances and other improved technologies aimed at enhancing cocoon production and quality. Further during the training programme different technical lectures will be delivered by the experienced Resource Persons of the department.

Speaking on the occasion, District Sericulture Officer, Bandipora, emphasised the importance of inclusive capacity-building programmes in empowering farmers with modern technical knowledge and practical skills. He highlighted that such interventions under HADP are aimed at improving productivity, quality and economic returns while ensuring that the benefits of departmental schemes reach tribal, general and women farmers alike.

The participating farmers will also receive practical guidance and exposure to improved sericulture practices during the programme. The initiative seeks to encourage the adoption of modern, sustainable and energy-efficient technologies and strengthen the overall sericulture sector in the district.
