GANDERBAL: Under the aegis of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme (VBYCP), the Dean of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organized “Youth Parliament” to deliberate on “One Nation, One Election” on Monday and held inspiring online lectures on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Addressing the participants of the “Youth Parliament” held at the Tulmulla Campus of the Central University of Kashmir, Dean of Academic Affairs and I/c Registrar, Prof. Shahid Rasool, said that the primary objective of organizing such programs is to provide a platform for students to unveil their hidden potential.

“These events offer an excellent opportunity for students to display their articulation and debating skills and share knowledge with peers,” he remarked. Prof. Shahid emphasized that students are not just the future but the active architects of the present. He urged them to take ownership and responsibility in realizing the dream of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. He encouraged the youth to rise beyond mere spectatorship and participate actively in the democratic process.

Highlighting the changing face of Indian politics, Prof. Shahid noted that a growing number of educated young individuals are entering politics and making a meaningful impact. “Irrespective of their political ideologies or affiliations, these new-generation leaders are working diligently and sincerely, raising issues that matter to the common people and ensuring their voices are heard,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean of the School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, described the event as an integral component of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. “NEP 2020 envisions a holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary approach to education, moving beyond traditional classroom learning. “A key component of this transformation is the emphasis on co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, which are now considered integral to a student's overall and holistic development,” he said.

“Students are the torchbearers of any nation, entrusted with shaping its future through their energy, vision, and sense of responsibility. When they step into the realm of politics, their role becomes even more significant. Politics, at its core, is a platform to serve society, uphold democratic values, and champion the welfare of the people.” Prof. Mir said that as future policymakers, students must remember that true leadership is not about position but about purpose—standing by the truth, protecting the rights of all citizens, and working selflessly for the nation's betterment.

During the program, participants took on the roles of ruling party members and opposition leaders and shared their viewpoints about the topic. Nodal Officer (VBYCP) Dr. Adil Amin Nazki and Youth Welfare Officer Dr. Samreen Geelani were also present.
