AWANTIPORA: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organised Radio Extravaganza, a talent hunt and skill-showcase event in collaboration with Radio Chinar 90.4 FM, a community radio station based in North Kashmir. The event aimed to provide students with a platform to showcase their talent, gain first-hand experience of interacting with radio professionals, and strengthen academia–industry collaboration.
Welcoming the guests and participants, Head DJMC, Dr. Rabia Noor, said the event is about discovering hidden voices, nurturing creativity, and empowering students to express themselves through different forms of art. “Today, we bring together young and vibrant students, each carrying a unique spark of talent,” she noted.
Chief Guest and Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Afroz Ahmad Bisati, appreciated the department for organising the event. “Radio is very much alive, and the proof lies in the fact that it is constantly evolving,” he said. Dean Outreach, Dr. Ruheela Hassan, added that radio remains one of the most powerful media of communication.
“At our university, we have used this platform to connect with communities and strengthen outreach. Initiatives like Radio Extravaganza not only celebrate this legacy but also empower students to become impactful communicators and storytellers of the future,” she said.
RJ Sahil Muzaffar, Station Head, Radio Chinar 90.4 FM, highlighted their broader vision: “The motive behind our work is not just entertainment, but to motivate the youth.” The event featured a vibrant session, IUST’s Got Talent, where students showcased poetry, singing, magic, music, live podcasting, and more.
Interactive sessions further demonstrated their creativity and spontaneity on the mic. Selected students were invited to Radio Chinar’s studio for live programmes, giving them hands-on experience in radio production and anchoring. Radio Extravaganza not only celebrated student talent but also helped students gain practical exposure alongside academic learning.
