POONCH: A grand awareness camp, part of the Swachh Survekshan 2024 initiative, was organised today here at Prade Park to  promote sanitation and environmental responsibility among the people. Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal was the chief guest, who emphasized the critical need for maintaining sanitation, waste segregation, and processing for a sustainable urban environment.

The programme was organised by the Municipal Council and  attended by ADC, Tahir Mustafa Malik; President Bar Association Sunil Kumar Sharma and a large number of civil society members. Speakers at the event highlighted the need for community participation in waste management and the role of collective efforts in improving the city's cleanliness rankings.

Dustbins, plants and Key were distributed among PM Svanidhi Scheme vendors and PMAY(U) beneficiaries to promote sustainable waste disposal and urban greenery. The event focused on promoting recycling and waste reduction practices, with students receiving RRR cups as a symbol of their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Students who participated in the painting competition were awarded mementos for their artistic contributions to the theme of cleanliness and waste management. Waste to Compost’ Initiative: Municipal Council Poonch officially launched the Waste to Compost program, aimed at converting organic waste into useful compost, reducing landfill burden, and encouraging eco-friendly practices, compost was distributed among locals.

The Health Department organized a free medical camp under the Safai Mitra Suraksha initiative, ensuring the well-being of sanitation workers and promoting hygiene awareness. The Deputy Commissioner lauded the efforts of the Municipal Council and urged citizens to actively participate in Swachh Survekshan 2024. The event concluded with a pledge by all attendees to keep Poonch clean and green, reinforcing the city’s commitment to sustainable urban development.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens, students, representatives of various NGOs, advocates, the President of the Bar Association and its members, and students from different schools.
