JAMMU: A Road safety awareness and medical checkup camp was organized by J&K Motor Vehicles Department at General Bus stand Jammu in collaboration with Health Department, J & K Bank and Transport Unions under the aegis of National Road Safety Month 2025 being observed across the country from Jan 1--2025 to Jan 31-2025. The event was inaugurated by Member Legislative Assembly Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi in presence of DIG JKS Range Shiv Kumar Sharma and   Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan.

Among others present were Jt. Transport Commissioner J&K   Vinay Samotra; RTO Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra; ARTO (HQr.) Rehana Tabassam and ARTO(FS) Bipen Singh Charak. The programme included a health check-up camp where more than 200 drivers underwent medical examinations. Alongside, detailed sessions were held to educate drivers about the benefits of Ayushman Health Cards and accidental insurance, enabling them to avail these crucial facilities.

MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi called for joint effort of all the stakeholders to create awareness about road safety in the society so that lives of people can be saved. Speaking on the occasion, the Transport Commissioner emphasized the importance of road safety and driver’s responsibility. He urged drivers to avoid drunken driving, ensure proper rest, and maintain updated documents. He reiterated that neither any work nor any assignment can be accomplished without the contribution of the drivers' fraternity. This noble profession must be valued by observing traffic regulations. The goals/achievements of the people have been accomplished with the contribution of the driver who transported the passengers to their place of exam or test or destination.

DIG JKS Range also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of road safety and the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to prevent accidents and ensure a safe driving environment. The event witnessed active participation from drivers and stakeholders, marking another step towards fostering a culture of safety and awareness in the transport sector. Teams from Medical & Health Education Department, J&K Bank, AAYUSH and MVIs, SMVIs and other officials also attended the programme.
