BHADERWAH: A one-day educational workshop under the Jammu & Kashmir Climate Innovation Programme (JKCIP) 2025–26 was organized today here at Community Hall Bhaderwah by the Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare.

The programme attended by District Development Council Chairman, Dhananter Singh Kotwal as the Chief Guest, while MLA Bhaderwah, Daleep Singh Parihar and Deputy Commissioner, Harvinder Singh attended as Guests of Honour. The event commenced with a welcome address by Chief Agriculture Officer, Amjad Hussain Malik.

The workshop featured detailed deliberations on the development of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), strengthening of farmer collectives, value addition, promoting market linkages and climate-smart agricultural practices. Departmental stalls were put up to disseminate information on the government schemes offering attractive incentives to support FPOs and agriculture and allied sector enterprises, besides  showcasing innovative practices, improved inputs and other farmer-centric initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, DDC Chairman, Dhananter Singh Kotwal lauded the initiative and underscored the importance of promoting indigenous crop varieties, particularly the GI-tagged Rajmash, which has been adversely impacted by recent climatic variations. He emphasized that preservation and promotion of the unique agricultural produce would bolster the local economy, generate wider awareness and open marketing avenues for the region’s specialty crops.

MLA Bhaderwah, Daleep Singh Parihar, in his address, emphasized strengthening outreach framework to provide timely technical support and improved infrastructure to enhance farm income and ensure sustainable agricultural growth in the region.

Deputy Commissioner, Harvinder Singh highlighted the importance of promoting climate-resilient crops to safeguard agricultural productivity amid changing climatic conditions. He stressed the need for open discussions and the exchange of innovative ideas to boost region-specific agricultural production. He further called for effective coordination and cooperation among all stakeholders for sustainable agricultural development in the district.

The programme was attended by ADC Bhaderwah, CPO, Chief Agriculture Officer, BDO, DDC Councillor, officers, civil society members and a large number of progressive farmers, making the event a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing and collaborative action.
