JAMMU: Commissioner Relief and Rehabilitation (M), Dr. Arvind Karwani, today chaired a meeting to review the necessary arrangements for annual Maha Shivratri Festival, falling on 25th and 26th of February, 2025.

Abdul Sattar, Joint Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation; Vijay Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (Relief); Dr Tara Chand, Joint Director (Exn), Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu; Dr. Deepak Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (Relief), Shiwani Bhan; Chief Accounts Officer, Relief, Sanjeev Kumar; Assistant Commissioner (Relief) and other senior officers of the Departments of FCS&CA, Fisheries,  Floriculture,  Horticulture & Marketing, Jal Shakti,  PDD, R&B (PW) Department attended the meeting.

The Commissioner highlighted the importance of Maha Shivratri Festival, particularly for the Kashmiri Pandit Community. He asked the district administration to constitute checking squads to monitor the quality and rates of the essential commodities like Flowers, Pooja items, Mutton, Fish, Vegetables, Dairy products etc.

He asked the Floriculture Department to ensure supply of flowers especially Bael/Bael leaves and Marigold to all the migrant camps including Jagti, Muthi, Purkhoo and Nagrota and Non Camp areas where Kashmiri Pandits have a sizeable population like Durga Nagar, Roop Nagar, Janipur Colony, Anand Nagar, Bohri, Gangyal, Subash Nagar, Muthi, Udhaywala, Talab Tillo during the festival days.

The Commissioner exhorted upon the Department of Horticulture to ensure supply of good quality walnuts, green vegetables, especially Nadru, in all the migrant camps and non-camp areas during the festival days on approved rates. He also asked the Department of FCS&CA to ensure smooth supply of all quality food items in all migrant camps and non-camp areas.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation assured arrangements of cleanliness in all the Migrant Camps at Jammu and other non-camp areas where Kashmiri Pandits have a sizeable population. The Sheep Husbandry Department, Jammu assured adequate supply of mutton at reasonable rates in close coordination with Jammu Municipal Corporation. During the meeting, the Department of Fisheries assured supply of adequate quantity of fish in all the migrant camps and prominent non camp areas through Mobile Vans.
