SAMBA: The office of Assistant Director Handloom Samba on Saturday organised a comprehensive one-day exhibition and awareness camp at Samba Fort, highlighting the region's rich handloom and handicraft traditions. The event aimed at supporting and empowering local artisans and weavers, was presided over by Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu Suraj Prakash Rukwal.
More than 150 artisans and weavers participated in the event, which served as a crucial platform for recognizing and supporting local craftsmanship. In a significant move to boost the handloom sector, Director Rukwal distributed sanction letters to beneficiaries under various departmental schemes, including Credit Card Scheme, PM Weaver Mudra Scheme and additional Financial Support Schemes.
As part of the initiative, Charkhas (spinning wheels) were also distributed to Handloom Cooperative Societies, further strengthening the local handicraft ecosystem. The Chief Guest lauded the exceptional Handloom products showcased by the weavers and strongly encouraged more individuals to embrace these traditional crafts as a means of creating sustainable livelihoods. This event underscores the government's commitment to preserving and promoting local handicraft traditions while providing economic opportunities to skilled artisans.
