SRINAGAR: Municipal Commeettee Kupwara (MCK)  has intensified anti-encroachment drive against street vendors and shopkeepers  to ensure smooth flow to traffic on roads. During MCK’s drive, heavy goods and other materials were also seized from the street vendors and shopkeepers who had occupied footpaths and roadsides. A fine was also recovered from the erring street vendors.

PTK reporter said that, a team of MCK enforcement squad led by Tehsildar Kupwara Shabir Ahmad carried the anti-encroachment drive at Jamia Masjid Road, Iqbal Market, Hijaj Market, Faisal Market, Bus stand, Main Chowk and its adjacent areas. Tehsildar Kupwara Shabir Ahmad said that drive was started today. “We used to carry this drive after specific periods."
He added that in a recent meeting, DDC Kupwara issued clear directions to the officials that make roads and footpaths encroachment free. “Strict action under law will be taken against those found guilty of encroaching public spaces.  Under rules, we will seize their goods and other article in case they encroach upon footpaths and roads. We will not allow anyone to create hindrance in traffic and pedestrian movement,” Tehsildar Kupwara said.  According to reports, Tehsildar Kupwara Shabir Ahmad also appealed street vendors to install their stalls at the designated places in town where they can smoothly run their businesses without breaching the rights of commuters and pedestrians.
