JAMMU: Tawi Andolan celebrated “International Environment Day” at Forest Information Centre, Bikram Chowk, Jammu. Addressing the gathering. Prof. Bhola Nath gave detail information about historical and cultural background of river Tawi and its place in our social life. World Famous Environmentalist Dr. C.M. Sethi gave a detail about the measures being taken in other countries to meet out the challenge of Environment degradation and climate change.

 

Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Shamsher Singh Manhas, in his address as Chief Guest of the programme called upon the members of Tawi Andolan to volunteer themselves to implement Centre government schemes meant for ecological balance and conservation of water bodies. Presenting the vote of thanks Tawi Andolan Convenor Adv. Chander Mohan Sharma repeated the demand of formation of Tawi Development Board for equitable and comprehensive development of River tawi. He further said that Tawi has 141 kms run throughout the different parts of Jammu province. There is need of developing the shrines located on both sides of the river.
