SRINAGAR: On the eve of world environment day, the eco-club of S P College, Srinagar organized a series of extension lectures in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Water Management and P.G. Department of Environmental Science of the college. The lectures were delivered by the subject experts from Srinagar Municipal Corporation who spoke on the theme “Solid Waste Management”. The principal of the college, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Lone, speaking on the occasion stressed on more practice-oriented programs related to solid waste management which has become a nuisance and is causing a lot of pollution in the State.

 

Shahid Nazir from SMC deliberated at length on the solid waste management program of Srinagar and talked about the measures to reduce, recycle and reuse the waste. The college kick-started a solid waste management project and waste audit for the institution on the occasion. Another expert Dr Javaid Qazi (Health officer, SMC) detailed about the type of collaboration that SMC shall be providing to the college with regard to its solid waste management program. He also talked about the health issues concerned with the solid waste pollution. the program proceedings were conducted by Dr Humaira Qadri (Convenor, Eco-club of the college).
