GANDERBAL: A stunning colourful Himalayan Monal, apparently come down from the nearby forests, was spotted and captured by Manigam family in Ganderbal district on Friday evening later handed over to the wildlife authorities. A stunning colourful Himalayan bird Monal was reportedly spotted in the Manigam area on Friday evening by a local person namely Mohammad Amin Mir of Durpora Manigam from the premises of house and managed to capture after struggling in dark evening.
Later Monal was handed over to the wildlife authorities in presence of forester Ab Rashid, who took the bird to Dachigam National Park at Srinagar. The stunningly colourful Himalayan Monal is an extremely shy bird found in the Himalayan region. It is the state bird of Uttarakhand and is the national bird of Nepal. The male Monal birds are multicoloured while the female birds who are dull in colour. Easily spotted in across Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, the Himalayan Monals are also found in Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and other Himalayan regions.
