SRINAGAR: The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar observed the coldest night of the season on Wednesday with the mercury" reaching below the freezing point for the first time. According to an official of the Meteorological Department the minimum temperature in the city settled at a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. "The night temperature was nearly five degrees below normal for this time of the season," he said.
The minimum temperature at Ladakh and at other places across Kashmir Valley also stayed below the freezing point, he added. Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh recorded a low of minus 8.4 degree Celsius and minus 9.0 degree Celsius respectively. He further said that the famous ski-resort of Kashmir, Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered the minimum of minus 6.6 degree while pahalgham in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius. However, since November 9 the MeT office has forecast secluded to dispersed rainfall or snow, especially in the higher reaches of the Jammu and Kashmir state.
