SRINAGAR: The stale food supplied by a private canteen to students sparked a protest at the Zakura campus of Kashmir University (KU). The hostel boarders of Sheikh ul Alam Boys hostel according to reports called officials from Food Safety Department after they were served rotten food in the hostel canteen. According to students the officials after inspecting the kitchen and food castigated authorities for providing stale food to the students.
The students have decided to protest in the campus till authorities do not provide them all the basic facilities. “We don’t get hygienic food. There are no clean washrooms and besides we don’t have a mosque where we can offer prayers collectively,” the protesting students told news agency CNS. “The canteen is operated by a private party that only is interested in maximizing profits and it doesn’t care about hygiene,” students said. Chief proctor of the varsity, Naseer Iqbal said the administration will look into the issue. He said the protesting students are being persuaded to end their protest as authorities are looking into their grievances.
