JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu under the leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu inaugurated the eight batch of the Nurturing Future Leadership Program on 21st April 2025 at its permanent campus, Nyaya Classroom, Vedanta, MDP Centre, Jagti. Organized under the aegis of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, Ministry of Education, Government of India, this initiative reflects IIM Jammu's commitment to academic excellence and leadership development.The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony. Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu graced the Inaugural Ceremony.

This unique residential training program, scheduled from21st April to 25th April 2025, is designed to cultivate leadership capabilities among educators at various levels, creating a pool of potential leaders ready to drive generational transitions. Delivered by IIM Jammu’s faculty, the program aims to help institutions enhance their leadership potential. Participants introduced themselves and shared their reflections on the program, discussing their experiences and expectations. Present on the occasion were Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE &C), IIM Jammu, Dr. Mahesh Gadekar, Program Director and Dr. Kapil Gumte, Program Director, IIM Jammu.

Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, welcomed the participants and highlighted that the program, organized under the aegis of Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, Ministry of Education, Government of India, is aimed at identifying and nurturing academic leadership. He emphasized that the initiative is designed to equip faculty members, especially early-career professionals—with essential leadership skills, fostering a pool of future-ready academic leaders and a positive institutional culture. He noted that the program serves as a valuable platform for peer learning, collaboration, and long-term professional networking. Stressing that educational leadership is rooted in continuous learning and self-development, he described teaching as a professional endeavor.

He underscored the importance of staying updated, moving beyond textbooks, and integrating emerging technologies. He encouraged participants to view tools like AI as opportunities to enhance critical thinking and classroom engagement. Highlighting the strength of case-based teaching—a cornerstone of IIM pedagogy—he spoke on its effectiveness in driving interactive, discussion-led learning. He reiterated for a symbiotic teacher-student relationship, where mutual influence creates a dynamic and positive classroom environment. Emphasizing discipline in academia, he urged educators to be well-prepared, punctual, and consistent in delivery to earn students' respect. Reflecting on his transition from industry to academia, he shared that while the academic profession requires full commitment, it offers unmatched fulfillment and purpose. He encouraged participants to cultivate engaging learning spaces, commit to ongoing improvement, and actively contribute to enriching the teaching-learning ecosystem.

Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson, EE &C, IIM Jammu, highlighted the program’s focus on leadership development, real-life challenges, and team building. He also provided an overview of Executive Education and Consultancy and IIM Jammu’s journey. He emphasized the Institute’s commitment to fostering collaborative learning environments that encourage active participation and experiential learning.

Dr. Mahesh Gadekar, Program Director, IIM Jammu welcomed everyone and provided a brief introduction to the program. He outlined the objectives of the five-day program, emphasizing its focus on equipping faculty with essential leadership skills to enhance their academic journeys and foster impactful learning environments.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Kapil Gumte, Program Director, IIM Jammu followed by the national anthem. The eight-batch comprised of 18 participants from institutes across India and is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The curriculum is structured into four key themes: leadership, communication, skill development, and recent government initiatives. Over five days, participants will engage in lectures, interactive workshops, group discussions, case studies, role-plays, and practical exercises, ensuring the active application of concepts. Following the inaugural ceremony, participants toured the institute’s campus, gaining insights into its state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The Nurturing Future Leadership Program aligns with the Malaviya Mission’s vision of empowering educators and leaders to shape India’s educational landscape, reinforcing IIM Jammu’s position as a hub for leadership and innovation.
