Indian Institute of Management Jammu marks a decade of excellence with grand 10th year celebration at Jagti Campus

JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu commenced its 10th Year Celebration with a grand inaugural ceremony at its Jagti Campus on August 22, 2025. The event marked a decade of IIM Jammu’s inspiring journey as a premier institution of management education, research, and innovation in India. The occasion was graced by distinguished dignitaries, with Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Financial Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K, delivering the inaugural address as Chief Guest. Shri Amitava Chatterjee, Managing Director and CEO of J&K Bank addressed the gathering as Guest of Honour. Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, graced the occasion in the presence of deans, faculty members, officers, staff, students, alumni, and other eminent dignitaries

The event commenced with the traditional Saraswati Vandana and lighting of the lamp, creating an atmosphere of purity and auspiciousness. A defining moment of the evening was the unveiling of IIM Jammu’s 10-Year Logo by Chief Guest Shri Shantmanu (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K, in the presence of Guest of Honour Shri Amitava Chatterjee, MD & CEO, J&K Bank, and Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu. The unveiling of the 10th Year logo stood as a testament to IIM Jammu’s glorious journey so far and its aspiration to chart a path of innovation and transformation.

Chief Guest Shri Shantmanu (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K, in his address, reflected on his own life experiences to highlight the significance of this milestone in IIM Jammu’s journey. He compared the Institute’s present phase to the “wisdom tooth stage of life,” a period marked by maturity, insight, and greater responsibility. Drawing from his academic and professional journey, spannin, his engineering at IIT Roorkee, M.Tech at IIT Kharagpur, training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, and engagements with premier institutions like IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, and NIFT, he emphasized the importance of staying connected to one’s roots, taking pride in one’s achievements, and embracing lifelong learning.

He noted that management extends beyond business to development, coordination, excellence and nation-building, praising IIM Jammu as a hub of holistic growth under the visionary leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu. Highlighting initiatives like Anandam: The Center for Happiness, he remarked that true education encompasses joy and inner fulfillment. He expressed his joy in unveiling the 10-year logo to commemorate the Institute’s journey, describing its open-ended design as a symbol of boundless possibilities, limitless aspirations, and an ongoing journey of learning, innovation, and national contribution. He concluded by pledging support to strengthen synergy between educational institutions, government, and society, urging the spirit of the 10-year celebration to continue as a perpetual force for collaboration, innovation, and nation-building.

Shri Amitava Chatterjee, Managing Director and CEO, J&K Bank, in his address, invoked the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, urging students to recognize their role as future leaders in shaping the nation’s destiny and seeking their commitment to this larger cause. He emphasized the vital synergy between industry and academia, noting that strong collaboration between the two is essential for sustainable growth. Highlighting his own deep engagement with industry, government, and educational institutions, he remarked that this unique ecosystem provides students with unparalleled learning opportunities. He encouraged students to learn not only from faculty but also from industry, which serves as a living

laboratory of ideas and practices. Reminding the gathering that the nation places high expectations on its youth, he urged them to move beyond being job seekers to become job creators. Stressing that management education extends beyond theory to the practical application of knowledge for societal and industrial transformation, He commended IIM Jammu as it enters its 10th year of academic and institutional excellence. He observed that such milestones are not just celebratory but also a call to greater responsibility and added that the occasion gains deeper significance when leaders like Prof. B.S. Sahay and teams from institutions like IIMs share the stage with industry, fostering collaboration crucial for India’s progress.

Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, in his welcome address, reflected on the institute’s remarkable journey since its inception in 2016. He expressed gratitude to the Government of India, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji, Dr. Jitendra Singh,Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Govt. of India, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, the Government of J&K, and all the stakeholders from academia and industry for their steadfast support. Recalling IIM Lucknow as the mentor institute, he remembered IIM Jammu’s modest beginnings with 56 students, two classrooms, and three faculty members, trainees, and acknowledged the pivotal contributions of Padmashri Dr. Milind P. Kamble, Chairman, BoG, Shri Ram Dandekar, Former Chairman, BoG, IIM Jammu; and all members of the BoG, faculty, staff, and community in shaping the institute’s growth.He acknowledged all Activity Heads and Chairpersons among the faculty and staff, recognizing their valuable contributions in shaping IIM Jammu’s journey.

Highlighting a landmark achievement, he noted that IIM Jammu secured two prestigious international accreditations, BGA Institutional Accreditation and EFMD Programme Accreditation for its MBA programmewithin a single year. This

milestone places IIM Jammu among the top five IIMs nationally and makes it the only second-and third-generation IIM to achieve both, establishing it as a globally recognized hub of management excellence. He reiterated the institute’s commitment to attaining the ‘triple crown’ and positioning itself among the finest global B-Schools.Emphasizing the institute’s core values, symbolized by its eagle logo representing limitless learning, its core values, global reach, and the divine spirit of Lord Vishnu’s carrier, he highlighted transformative initiatives at IIM Jammu, including first of its kind unique Cultural Immersion Initiative, Bandhan; the mentor–mentee program, Project YUVA with Govt. of J & K, Centers of Excellence such as CiTAG; CEISD, Anandam: Center for Diversity and Inclusion, the Centre for Small Business Development, robust entrepreneurship initiatives, and strong industry–community partnerships that enrich learning beyond the classroom.

Urging students to uphold IIM Jammu’s values, work hard, and serve as its brand ambassadors, he aligned his message with the vision of Viksit Bharat and the nation-building mandate of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. He reaffirmed that while IIM Jammu has miles to go, it is steadfast in its pursuit to emerge as a premier institution of global repute, serving the state, the nation, and society at large.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu, reflected on the institute’s journey from its modest beginnings at the transit campus to emerging as a leading management institution. He highlighted 2025 as a landmark year with two international accreditations, bringing IIM Jammu closer to achieving the prestigious ‘triple crown.’ Acknowledging the support of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and initiatives like Bandhan, that connect students with local communities, he emphasized the institute’s commitment to growth, excellence, and nation-building.Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, highlighted that the institute has always believed in taking steps towards excellence. He noted that the first decade was about laying a strong foundation, during which IIM Jammu not only expanded its presence across India but also forged pathbreaking partnerships with leading international institutions. He emphasized that this journey has created a game-changing legacy, carrying with it the responsibility of the future. While still a young institution, IIM Jammu, with its unwavering commitment and drive, is poised to scale greater heights in the years ahead.

A key highlight of the event was a high-level panel discussion on the theme “Role of Educational Institutions in the Growth and Development of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir”, moderated by Chief Guest Shri Shantmanu, (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K. The distinguished panel comprised Prof. K. S. Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Jammu; Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir; Prof. Monika Gupta, Director, NIFT Srinagar; Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU; Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu; Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty & Research, IIM Jammu; and Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu.

The discussion centered on the pivotal role of higher educational institutions in driving innovation, nurturing future talent, and accelerating the socio-economic growth of the UT. The panelists underscored the need for stronger academia-industry-government linkages, interdisciplinary research, and collaborative initiatives to position Jammu and Kashmir as a hub of knowledge, innovation, healthcare, technology, and entrepreneurship. They also highlighted the importance of capacity building, skill development, and inclusive education in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and contributing meaningfully to the region’s sustainable development.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal, Chairperson, Anandam and Media & Publication Division, IIM Jammu, followed by the national anthem. Dr. Anuja Akhouri, Faculty, IIM Jammu, served as the Master of Ceremony. The 10th Year Celebration of IIM Jammu marked not only a decade of remarkable achievements but also the Institute’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, research, societal impact, and nation-building. The milestone reaffirmed IIM Jammu’s vision of nurturing leaders and innovators poised to shape the future of Jammu and Kashmir, the nation, and beyond, in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat and the nation-building as put forward by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji.

The day further featured insightful industry sessions aimed at broadening the perspectives of the incoming batch. Shri Rajesh Kumar Garg, Chief Financial Officer, B. Barun, delivered a session on “From Spreadsheets to Strategy: The Evolution of a Leader,” coordinated by Prof. Pankaj Maheshwari, Professor of Practice, IIM Jammu, where he highlighted the transition of managerial roles from operational tasks to strategic leadership. This was followed by a thought-provoking talk on “Strategic Procurement: Beyond Cost Savings to Business Value” by Shri Ravish Malhotra, Associate Director, Ola, coordinated by Dr. Sarbjit Singh, Chairperson, Admissions, IIM Jammu, which emphasized the critical role of procurement in creating sustainable business advantage.

As part of the Institute entering its 10th Year of Celebration, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean (Faculty & Research), IIM Jammu, led a reflective discussion on the institute’s remarkable journey over the past decade and its vision for the future. The day concluded with a valedictory ceremony, followed by a vibrant cultural program presented by the students of IIM Jammu, capturing the spirit of creativity, diversity, and togetherness that defines the institute.

The 10 Year celebrations will continue throughout the year with a series of events, conferences, cultural programs, and academic initiatives, underscoring the Institute’s commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and global standards in management education. Established in 2016, IIM Jammu has rapidly emerged as a premier business school in the country. With its state-of-the-art campus, innovative programs, and strong focus on research, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration, the Institute continues to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
