JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired a meeting today to review registrations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a Central Government scheme aimed at providing subsidised solar power solutions for residential households.
The DC called for making the initiative hugely successful and emphasised the importance of conducting awareness camps across all sub-divisions to educate the public about the scheme. He expressed a strong resolve to ensure the scheme reaches every village, leaving no household unaware of its benefits. He instructed officers to maintain close coordination to ensure smooth implementation.
Key topics like eligibility criteria and application procedures were discussed in the meeting, and BDOs and Tehsildars were directed to involve stakeholders to deliver maximum benefits to the public.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana offers financial relief to households by enabling them to install rooftop solar systems with subsidies. The scheme provides for a subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost for systems up to 2kW capacity and 40 percent of additional system cost for systems between 2 to 3kW capacity. The subsidy has been capped at 3kW capacity.
Eligible households can save annually on electricity bills while contributing to environmental sustainability. Senior officers from the Power Development Department, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars and Block Development Officers besides others participated in the meeting.
