SRINAGAR: An awareness cum input distribution programme on Shallot (Kashmiri Pran) under HADP project, (promotion of niche crops in the UT of J&K), was today held at advanced research station for saffron and temperate seed spices, SKUAST- K Dusuu Pampore. The programme was organised by advanced research station for saffron and temperate seed spices, SKUAST-K.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director Agriculture reiterated departments commitment to preserving different niche crops including Shallot (Kashmiri Pran). He enumerated the different initiatives by the department in this direction. He said that our niche crops has a vast potential in terms of socio-economic growth and sustainability. He said under holistic agriculture development program (HADP) government has approved a multi crore prestigious project to promote the niche crops in the region.
The Jt. Director said the different interventions under HADP Project, (Promotion of niche crops) like establishment of nurseries/ seed villages, would generate job opportunities for unemployed youth working in niche sector. Earlier, Head of the research station presented a detailed scenario of different initiatives by the advanced research station, for the promotion of niche crops like Shallot. Later, shallot seed was distributed among the farmers with the aim to increase the area under shallot cultivation. Officers of the Research Station, agriculture department and a number of Shallot farmers were present on the occasion.
