KUPWARA: Director Fisheries Jammu & Kashmir, A. M. Tak, along with Joint Director Fisheries (North), Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, conducted a comprehensive visit to District Kupwara to assess fisheries infrastructure, distribute financial assistance, and promote modern aquaculture practices.
They distributed cheques worth âč21 lakhs to the fishermen community under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for livelihood and nutritional support. Additionally, cheques worth âč32 lakhs were provided to beneficiaries for the establishment of live fish vending centers under PMMSY, ensuring improved market accessibility for fish farmers.
At the Carp Fish Farm in Shuloora, they inspected the newly established carp pond, constructed under the Capex Budget while at the Carp Fish Farm in Bohipora, they conducted a survey for the establishment of modern aquaculture practices focusing on implementing a Recirculatory Aquaculture System to boost sustainable and high-yield fish farming.
At the Trout rearing unit in Kutlari, Director distributed cheques to newly selected beneficiaries under PMMSY, amounting to âč8.80 lakhs for the general category and âč9.90 lakhs for the women category. He also distributed farm implements to newly farmers selected under the PMMSY.
Further, he reviewed the sanctioning and commissioning of the Kutlari farm upgradation under the NABARD scheme, marking a significant step towards enhancing the region's fisheries infrastructure. Besides, he reviewed newly established carp pond, constructed under the Capex Budget at Carp Fish Farm in Kohru.
