KISHTWAR: In a proactive step, the District Administration Kishtwar, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan has kick-started a Panchayat/Village Level Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign across all 13 blocks of the district. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the devastating effects of substance abuse and mobilize community participation in the fight against drug addiction.

As part of this sustained effort, awareness drives will be organized in panchayats every Monday, ensuring continuous engagement with local communities in all 13 Blocks across the District. The launch event received an enthusiastic response, with active involvement from local residents, students, and community leaders across all blocks.

At the district headquarters, the campaign was kick-started at Revenue Village Kishtwar (ITI Kishtwar) in the presence of Additional Commissioner Revenue (ACR)  Idrees Lone, who presided over the event. Addressing the gathering, the ACR underscored the importance of fostering drug control measures to realize the goal of "Nasha Mukt" (drug-free) society. He urged the youth to play an active role in spreading awareness about the perils of drug abuse.

Many speakers, including Medical Officers from the Health Department, teachers and others shared their insights against drug abuse and awareness of the NASHA MUKT initiative. A Nasha Mukt Abhiyan pledge was also administered on the occasion to the participants by TSWO Rajesh Kumar Sharma.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to tackle the issue through consistent information dissemination and active community engagement. Similar events were held across 13 villages in different blocks of the District, involving the participation of SDMs, Tehsildars, BDOs, and other Officers.

The departments, including Social Welfare, Health, Education, Excise, ICDS, NRLM, RDD, Police, and Revenue, NGOs actively participated in the initiative across the District. The District Administration Kishtwar called upon all stakeholders, including educational institutions, civil society organizations, and local governance bodies, to actively participate in this crucial initiative and contribute to building a healthier, drug-free society.
