JAMMU: National Conference on Thursday described the reported decision to regularize nearly 60,000 daily rated workers as belated but welcome move and sought regularization of remaining casual, seasonal and daily wagers, Home Guards, SPOs besides contractual lecturers and demonstrators of higher and technical education departments in Jammu and Kashmir. In a joint statement, Provincial Presidents of the Jammu and Kashmir Provinces, Mr Devender Singh Rana and Mr Nasir Aslam Wani sought the regularization of Home Guards and SPOs as Constables in Jammu and Kashmir Police given their contribution in exigencies and maintaining law and order. They said many SPOs have sacrificed their lives during the call of their duties and their contribution cannot be undermined.

They urged the government to ensure the implementation of report of a high level official penal with regard to regularization of 60,000 daily rated workers soon and in a time-bound manner. “Any further delay in regularization will be unjust”, they maintained. “Sooner the government does consider the regularization of the left over categories better it would be for thousands of families across the state, who are faced with numerous hardships during these hard days”, the statement said, adding that these categories have been struggling in support of their demands for a long.

Mr Rana and Mr Wani leaders expressed solidarity with temporary workers and contractual employees and assured that the National Conference will continue to support their just cause, like in the past. They recalled the continuous support lend by National Conference to the agitating workers from time to time and hoped that the legitimate demands of the remaining categories would be fulfilled soon.
