KATHUA: District Development Commissioner Rohit Khajuria today chaired a meeting to review the disaster management preparedness in the district. During the meeting, the DDC called for providing basic training to the volunteers and other identified human resources to be pooled in from different government departments as standby workforce and to have a practical plan for prompt disaster response during any eventuality.


He informed that an Emergency Operation Centre will come up in the district headquarter for which 5 kanals of land has been identified. While taking the first-hand appraisal of infrastructure and preparedness from the departments, DDC asked for submission of updated inventory of the available infrastructure with the department. He also directed for initiating process to procure rescue equipment and other disaster response tools at district and tehsil level.


The DDC gave directions to the concerned Departments to adopt SOP’s to minimize the response time and effective relief and rehabilitation during any calamity. He also directed the departments to nominate 5 employees for training of emergency response by Red Cross. SSP Suleman Chaudhary, ADC Rishpal Singh, ADC Billawar, ADC Basohli, SE PDD, XEN PDD, XEN PHE, XEN PWD, ACD, ACR, CMO, CEO, SDM Bani were also present on the occasion.


Earlier in another meeting, DDC reviewed the functioning of Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department. DDC directed AD FCS&CA to ensure smooth distribution of ration, LPG and kerosene oil among the consumers with transparency and to check the pricing of eatables in the markets on regular basis.
