SRINAGAR: In a bid to check rifle snatching incidents, Jammu Kashmir Police have directed security guards to chain their assault rifles with their body as per the standard instructions contained in the drill for such duties. The Police have also imposed a blanket ban on the use of smart phones during guard duties. An order in this regard has been issued by Jammu Kashmir Armed Police. The detailed order duly signed by A.K. Choudhary, the Additional Director General of Armed Police impresses upon cops on guard duties to be alert and careful and avoid the use of smart phones.

"It has been observed that recent weapon snatching incidents have occurred (as) sentries on duty remain engaged with their smartphones for most of the time, thereby compromising with their legitimate duty. This tendency has considerably increased and resulted in weapon snatching/killing of policemen in the state, particularly in the Valley. All guard personnel shall ensure compliance of the standing drill in letter and spirit,” the order reads with an instruction that the weapon must be chained to the guard's body.
