SRINAGAR: Police Friday claimed that slain militant Dawood from Srinagar was involved in the killing of three policemen including an officer in Kashmir capital Srinagar. In Srigufwara encounter, Dawood Ahmed Sofi of Zainakote HMT was killed along with three of his associates Majid Manzoor Dar, Aadil Rehman Bhat and Muhammad Ashraf Itoo. The official said that Dawood Ahmad was involved in number of stone pelting cases in the area prior to joining the militant outfit. The official added that Dawood was involved in a militant attack which resulted in the death of Assistant Sub Inspector Ghulam Muhammad and Head Constable Naseer Ahmad at Bagh–Ali-Mardan Khan in Zadibal area of Srinagar city.
“Dawood was also involved in the killing of policeman and snatching his rifle at Tengpora Batamaloo besides other militant attacks,” he said. The police official said that Majid Manzoor Dar of Talangam Pulwama also joined the militant outfit and remained active along with Aadil Rehman Bhat of Shettipora Bijbehara and Muhammad Ashraf Itoo of Hatigam Srigufwara Anantang. “Initially Dawood was known to be affiliated with Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen militant outfit that was active on social media and mostly attacked the policemen on duty at different places. The social media profiling and inputs indicate that they were inspired by ISIS module,” the police official said. “Incriminating material and huge quantity of ammunition was also seized from the site of encounter in Srigufwara,” he said.
