BANDIPORA: The lady who was critically injured in a stabbing attack in Hajin area of Bandipora district on Sunday night died on way to hospital, police said. She was driven in a critical condition to JVC hospital in Bemina where she was declared dead. PDP worker Abdul Majeed Dar son of  Abdul Gaffar Dar of Shahgund Sumbal told CNS that before his arrival in the house, a man had managed to enter his house and had made his son hostage in one of the rooms. “As I started offering prayers, the man put a pistol on my head and asked me why I am in politics. I explained to him that I am helping people and have done nothing wrong,” Dar said.

He added that suddenly, the man asked to unlock the locker as he told me that he has doubt some arms and ammunitions are present in the locker. “After unlocking the locker, the man took Rs 3 laks and the jewelry of my daughter. His action stunned me and I though he is a dacoit and not a militant. When I objected, he suddenly attacked my wife with a cutlet,” Dar said.

Police sources said that around 10.45 pm on Sunday, three youth barged in the house of PDP worker Abdul Majeed Dar of Shahgund Sumbal in Bandipora district. They were looking for Dar, apparently with the intention to kidnap him. “His wife Shakeela came in between to rescue her husband who was hiding somewhere in the house,” official sources said. “The attackers became furious and attacked Shakeela Begum with knives injuring her grievously,” said an official.

As the attackers fled, there were efforts to evacuate her to the hospital. “Shakeela was shifted to Hajin hospital where from she was referred to Srinagar,” they said. It took a bit of time in shifting her to the hospital and later to drive her to JVC in Srinagar, the nearest major hospital to the village. Aged about 45, she had multiple stab wounds. She had serious injuries in her abdomen and neck, sources said adding that she was declared brought dead by doctors at JVC Bemina. “We have registered a case and investigation has been taken up,” said a police official.
