  • Shadow candidates fulfilling their aspirations: Yudhvir Sethi

LEH: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary and incharge Ladhak, Yudhvir Sethi today said that both PDP and NC have betrayed people and especially their own party workers by staying away from basic democratic exercise and not participating in Urban Local Body (ULB) polls which were to elect councilors for Municipal Corporations (MC), Municipal Committees (MC) and Town Area Committees (TAC) scattered in all three regions of the state. This is the worst these political parties could do to their workers who had been working for elections of MLAs and MPs of both PDP and NC.

Addressing party workers at Leh today, Yudhvir Sethi said having stayed away from electioneering, these political parties now are fielding their shadow candidates to woo voters and keep BJP at a bay. This is not going to happen now for the simple reason that performance of BJP MP, former BJP minister and councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) are all going to prove tough on opposition. BJP, he added is going to win the Municipal Committee polls of Leh with thumping majority.

The BJP general secretary added that morale of party workers was quite high and it was towards this end that NC leaders were also roaming around in Ladakh region to woo voters. BJP, he added is a force to reckon with and past performance of party is testimony to the fact that it cares for common people and wants to empower them. Unlike, previous governments BJP ensured that held and elections to local bodies are held for decentralization of powers. Contrarily, PDP and NC leaders want to keep powers close to themselves and not let people or their workers get elected to local bodies.

Yudhvir Sethi said these elections were earlier held after 27 years and once the elected institutions completed their terms no government ever cared to hold elections again. He alleged that by staying away from elections of local bodies both NC and PDP have encouraged separatism and to scuttle democracy. Strengthening democratic institutions is biggest task before every recognized political party and NC and PDP by staying away from these polls have proved themselves to be weak, cowardice and failed institutions.

Most unfortunately, PDP scuttled the process whose patron had pledged to give people of Jammu and Kashmir an alternative to corrupt forces. Regrettably, the same political outfit denied participating in ULB elections and failed to become any alternative and instead encouraged family rule like NC did. He urged voters to recognize their power an change their fate by electing BJP to power in all ULBs and become a real alternative to corrupt and family rules in Jammu and Kashmir State.
