SRINAGAR: The three gunfights in three different areas of North Kashmir Thursday disrupted life in major portions. The encounters and the subsequent clashes left many people injured while police said that a militant was killed in one of the encounters. The gunfight raged in Warpora Sopore, Kalantra Krerri in Baramulla and Hajin Bandipora.
These area were put under siege after inputs about the presence of militants. The search operation had been launched in Kalantra Baramulla on Wednesday night. After a heavy gunfight, a militant was killed in Mir Mohalla Hajin area where gunfight was under way till the filing of this report. The encounter at Mir Mohalla began after a joint team of Army’s 13RR, CRPF and SOG launched cordon around Mir Mohalla of Hajin after having credible input about the presence of some militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected house the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter. One militant was killed during the ongoing encounter with government forces. In Warpora Sopore, following the grenade attack in which SHO Dangiwach Mudasir Ahmed was wounded, a youth sustained injuries during the clashes between the government forces.
Reports said that soon after the grenade attack near encounter, youth took to streets and clashed with the forces. The clashes resulted in bullet injuries to a youth identified as Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Check Roday near Fruit Mandi Sopore. In the incident, Irshad suffered a bullet injury and was subsequently shifted to sub-district hospital Sopore for treatment.
Police said that militants lobbed a grenade on a police party in Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir. In this incident, SHO Dangiwacha Muddasir Ahmad and his escort personnel received injuries. Both the injured have been shifted to hospital for medical attention. In Kalantra as well the gunfight and subsequent clashes were under way till this report was filed. A police official said that gun fights are underway while Forces are on job to neutralize militants.
