JAMMU: A human chain was organized at the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2024' (SHS 2024) Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata initiative, running from 17th September to 2nd October 2024. Students, scholars, faculty members, and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers actively participated in the event. Volunteers from Student For Development (SFD), a student oriented NGO also collaborated with the University in organising the human chain rally, which started from the DD building and stretched across the campus, demonstrating a collective commitment to cleanliness.
This event is part of the broader SHS 2024 campaign, which will culminate on 2nd October 2024 with Swachh Bharat Diwas, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean India. Participants also took a pledge to promote cleanliness in their daily lives.
Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar of CUJ, commended the participants' efforts, stressing the need for continuous environmental responsibility. Prof. Richa Kothari, Nodal Officer for SHS 2024, emphasised the alignment of the campaign with CUJ's mission of environmental awareness. Dr. Sujata Kundan, NSS Coordinator, appreciated the dedication of the NSS volunteers in driving the event forward. Dean Students' Welfare, Prof. Ritu Bakshi, also lauded the collective efforts of the students and volunteers, encouraging them to keep up their good work.
Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, encouraged everyone to take personal responsibility for cleanliness, highlighting the impact of small, consistent actions on building a sustainable future.
