JAMMU: As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign with the theme Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata, a cleanliness drive was organized by the NSS volunteers and the students of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Central University of Jammu along with Student for Development (SFD) volunteers. The event, held in the university’s canteen premises, aimed to promote environmental cleanliness and instill a sense of responsibility towards maintaining public spaces.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CUJ applauded the event, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness as not just a practice but a way of life. He commended the efforts of the NSS and students, encouraging them to continue their participation in such meaningful activities that align with the broader vision of creating a sustainable and clean environment.
The cleanliness drive was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Richa Kothari, Nodal Officer of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at the university. Dr. Sujata Kundan, NSS Coordinator, played a key role in mobilizing the students for the initiative e, while Dr. Kiran Kumari and Dr. Vishal served as team members supporting the event's organization and execution. Mr. Shubham Raina, Coordinator, SFD, also contributed to this event.
During the drive, students and volunteers actively cleaned the canteen premises, including the surrounding areas. The activity involved collecting waste, segregating recyclables, and properly disposing of garbage to promote the message of waste management. Awareness was also raised about reducing single-use plastics and adopting sustainable practices in daily life.
Prof. Richa Kothari highlighted the importance of such drives in educational institutions, stating, "Swachhata is not just a campaign; it is a behavioral change that we must all adopt. Cleanliness in public spaces like the university canteen reflects our respect for the environment and each other.
Dr. Sujata Kundan added that NSS has always been at the forefront of community service, and we are proud to lead this initiative with the active participation of our students. The energy and commitment shown today are truly commendable.
