JAMMU: Students, faculty and staff of Government Degree College Marh conducted 15 days Swachhta hi Sewa under theme “Swabhav Swachhta-Sanskaar Swachhta” and celebrated International day of Non-violence on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth anniversary under the guidance of Principal of the college Prof Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul.
The 15 days event began with a mega cleanliness drive in the form of an awareness rally which started from GDC Marh and culminated at the adopted village Dhateryal in which the volunteers from NSS, students and faculty participated actively. A pledge was also taken on Swachhata Abhiyan by the students, teachers and Principal. Mega cleanliness drive was carried out in the college premises, streets, grounds and nearby areas of the canal falling under the adopted village.
Series of activities viz. lecture on hygiene, quiz competition on Gandhiji’s life, seminar on Gandhiji’s vision for a sustainable future, symposium on theme Truth and Non-violence, slogan writings, screening of movie on life and contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, book reading “My Experiments with Truth”, group discussions, awareness programme at Panchayat Flora Nagbani and Bhajan singing were held during the 15 days event.
