JAMMU: The "Waste-to-Wealth Gallery" display, organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Central University of Jammu, took place on 23rd September 2024 as part of the nationwide “Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 (SHS-2024)” campaign.
This initiative, under the theme "Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata", highlighted the importance of minimizing waste and following the 4R’s principle—Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—to promote sustainable living.
The gallery showcased innovative and creative products made by students from various recyclable waste materials, including plastic, paper, glass, metals, etc. The aim was to raise awareness about responsible waste management and the environmental consequences of careless behaviour. The event emphasized adopting sustainable practices like reducing single-use plastics and practicing the 4R's of waste management.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu appreciated the students' efforts, commending their ability to create useful materials from waste.
The event was convened by Lt Dr. Pankaj Mehta, faculty, Department of Environmental Sciences, and Dr. Kiran, University icon of NSS under the supervision of Prof. Richa Kothari, Nodal Officer for the SHS-2024 campaign. The event was attended by the students, scholars, staff, and NSS volunteers who were inspired to incorporate waste reduction into their daily lives.
