- Month long winter residential camp concludes at Kargil
KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan Friday said that ice hockey as winter sports has tremendous potential in Kargil and the Council is committed to provide all out support needed for promotion of this sport. “The Council is committed to develop dependable infrastructure for the ice hockey in the district so that budding players can showcase their talent at the state, national and international levels” he said.
The CEC was addressing participants and local sports lovers at the closing ceremony of one month residential winter camp at the ice hockey rink of Spring Dale Public School (SPDS) Wakha. During the residential camp which was organized by Lamdon Social Welfare Society Wakha Mulbekh, more than 40 boys and girls from Wakha, Mulbekh and adjoining areas were imparted special training in ice hockey, computer technology, and leadership skills besides other related aspects under the guidance of instructors from Europe.
Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Councillor Shargole Muhammad Ali Chandan, Chief Education Officer Kargil Muhammad Mussa, Tehsildar Shargole Ghulam Mehdi, President Buddhist Association Kargil Nawang Tsering, Principal SPDS Tsewang Nurboo, In charge Officer Commanding 55 RCC Shargole, Sarpanchs, several officers of District and Police administration besides prominent people were present on the occasion.
Khan, while hailing the initiative of the organizers for holding the winter residential camp, expressed hope that it will prove fruitful in boosting the morale of the youngsters to participate in ice hockey tournaments at the district and state level. He said that youngsters have immense passion and enthusiasm for winter sports like ice hockey and such events assume significance for the development of better ice hockey culture in the district.
The CEC further stated that the Hill Council is working out a comprehensive plan for the development of winter sports in the district and a positive headway in this regard is expected in the days to come. The CEC informed that concrete efforts will be made to organize the annual CEC ice hockey championship in an innovative and organized way from next year onwards.
Earlier, ice hockey matches were played between the teams comprising of the camp participants. In the winter camp boys match Team Red defeated Team Blue by 1 goal while as Team Thinles defeated Team Nilza by 6 goals in the winter camp girls match. In the winter camp seniors match, Team Red defeated Team Blue by 1 goal. The CEC distributed certificates among the Coordinators and participants of the winter camp and expressed his wishes for their bright future.
Meanwhile, a number of public delegations met the CEC and presented their demands which included the construction and renovation of irrigation khuls, footbridges and other related infrastructure, construction of community halls, provision of funds for purchase of ice hockey equipments for local players and other demands. The CEC after giving a patient hearing to all demands and concerns assured people of their redressal in a phased manner.
