SRINAGAR: On 31 Dec 2018, Maj Gen Atul Kaushik, SM, VSM Commandant High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) flagged the beginning of night SKI training facility for soldiers of Indian Army. The night training skiing area is a first of its kind in India to facilitate and enhance capability for prolong training hours even during night hours by member of Army SKI team and the servicemen undergoing training courses at HAWS.

Night skiing training enhances Indian Army's combat mobility in snow bound terrain for troops deployed along Northern Borders. Further this training facility enables the Army solidier Team athletes to practice during night as per actual competition conditions at International championships. The night Ski training facility enhances the modernisation of training infrastructure available in HAWS Gulmarg. 

During the inaugural ceremony Mr Abbas Wani, President of Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir and other office bearers of Jammu and Kashmir Ski Association were present to reiterate strong bonding between the two organisation.

  • Inter Battalion Sports Meet – 2018 concludes

JAMMU: The closing ceremony of Inter Battalion Sports Meet- 2018 was held at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, today. Director General of Police, J&K, Shri Dilbag Singh IPS was the chief guest of the function. The closing ceremony was attended by a number of retired and serving senior police officers and by a huge crowd. Speaking on this occasion the DGP J&K at the very outset complemented ADGP Armed Shri A.K. Choudhary and IGP Armed Jammu Shri Danesh Rana and their team for successful organisation of the event.

The DGP said that the Armed wing is the back bone of the J&K Police which has come a long way from a humble beginning and today it is one of the best State Armed Police of the Country. Complementing the police personnel for earning special mention and praise from the Prime Minister of India in the DGPs Conference at Gujarat the DGP said that today it is because of the sacrifices and the excellent work by the officers and jawans that the Governor of our State Shri Satya Pal Malik and the Home Minister of India Shri Rajnath Singh have been all praise and have announced a number of welfare measures, for us.

The DGP also congratulated the players and the officers for their participation and showing their excellence in sports and advised them to work for keeping the flags of the Police, State and the Country high. While, praising the Asian Games Bronze medallist Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh and National Wushu Coach Inspr. Kuldeep Handoo, the DGP impressed upon the participating players to enhance their capabilities and excel at State, National and International level. He impressed upon the personnel to be fit and by engaging themselves in different sports activities.

Shri Dilbag Singh said that the J&K Police has been organising the sports events under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) for channelizing the energies of youth in positive directions through the medium of sports. He also gave his good wishes to the police band who are going to play host in the competition being organised in the state in February 2019.

Earlier in his address ADGP Armed Shri A.K. Choudhary presented a brief account of the event and the games played in it. He thanked the DGP and the PHQ for their support and assistance in organising the event. He also thanked the different wings of the state police for assisting in successful conduct of the event. In his thanks giving speech Organising Secretary of the event IGP Armed Jammu Shri Danesh Rana said that during the event new sports talent of the Armed Zone was spotted which will be put to trails for selection in the Central Police Team and for the National competition. He also thanked all the officers, civil departments, wings and print and electronic media for their cooperation and assistance.

  • Annual Sports Day of DRS Nagrota

JAGTI (NAGROTA): National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Saturday exhorted teachers and parents to guide children about which sport they should participate in very young age, keeping in view their interest and aptitude. “The idea should be to inculcate spirit of sportsmanship among children at the threshold of their schooling”, Mr Rana said at the first annual sports day function of DRS Kids School, Jagti in Nagrota Assembly Constituency. 

Mr Rana appreciated the enthusiasm of young kids in extracurricular and cultural activities and urged the school management to provide all necessary support in making them versatile in every sphere. Though in the basic stage of education, the kids should be acquainted about various games, he said while emphasisng on the parents and the teachers about importance of the sports, which are not only imperative for mental and physical growth of children but also opens up vistas of opportunities for them as they grow.

The Provincial president complimented the management for organising annual day sports event in a befitting manner, saying that these remain treasure for the students and their parents all their life. He appreciated the cultural programme including music, dance and singing of patriotic songs.  Alongside kids, their parents also participated in various activities like Mom Race for mothers and musical chair game for fathers.

He also lauded the role of private sector in supplementing the effort to impart quality education to children, saying extension of such facilities to rural areas is commendable.  Ms Supinder Kour, Master Franchise of the DRS Kids presented welcome address and said the management has taken all necessary steps to ensure congenial atmosphere for the kids to play and study. 

Principal of the DRS Nagrota, Ms Gagandeep Kour presented the annual report, highlighting various activities of the institutions. The Annual Sports Day Function started with lighting of traditional lamp by Mr Devender Singh Rana and other members of the management besides prayers by the kids, donned in colorful costumes.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mr Mohan Lal Sharma Dy SP Nagrota and Ms Parveen Bibi, Zonal Education Officer Dansal besides S. Suchwant Singh, former Director Agriculture  and the Chairperson of DRS Group Jammu and Kashmir and S. Randhir Singh, Managing Director DRS Nagrota. The faculty members Ms Preeti, Ms Neetika, Ms Romilla, Ms Sheetal, Ms Shivali, Ms Eshu and Ms Shallu greeted the guests and guided the kids participating in various activities.
