BANDIPORA: District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, today flagged-off a car rally for an off-road expedition from mini-secretariat here towards Drass via Gurez valley. As many as 28 expeditioners from Delhi and Srinagar, travelling in 12 vehicles, are participating in the said voyage, who are scheduled to camp in Gurez for two days.

The expedition has been organized by Kashmir Off Road Shalimar Srinagar. The DDC, on the occasion, said that the first ever expedition of this kind in Bandipora district will help to promote tourism. He said nature has bestowed the district especially Gurez sub-division with lush green pastures, scenic beauty, adventurous mountains and water bodies including Nallahs and famous Wullar lake which are best attractions for local and foreign tourists. The DDC assured full support from the district administration for such type of events.

SRINAGAR: Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering was so far conducting only snow skiing courses.  However, to diversify adventure tourism the Institute has been successful to start some other adventure activities in summer too. As a result the Institute is conducting Water Skiing Courses this summer with strength of 30 students in each course.

Accordingly an inauguration ceremony was held which was attended by the senior officials of the Institute, Guests & other dignitaries and media persons. The Instructors gave an impressive demonstration on the Conduct of training to all the viewers.

 

The tourists were very happy to see this impressive adventure activity in the famous Dal and Nigeen Lakes of the Srinagar City. This training is aimed to develop the personality of our youth and to promote adventure tourism in Kashmir.

KATHUA: District Youth Services & Sports department today organized District level Inter School U-19 Boys & Girls Karate tournament here at Sports Stadium.  ACR, Jitender Mishra, the chief guest said that   tournaments provide platform to the youth to test   their potential and prepare for national and international events.  He said Karate empowers people, particularly women, as they can fight back anti social elements.   He advised all the youth to take part in sports to stay physically and mentally fit.

In today`s matches, Amanjot Singh of Kartar Public School Barnoti, Sumit Kumar of Little Angel School Kathua, Sanjay Kumar of Saint Paul Convent School Haripur, Sangam Ranyal and Achal of Little Angel School Kathua, Rajeshwar Singh and Aman Singh of Government Higher Secondary School boys Kathua, Harpreet Singh of Kartar Public School Barnoti got first position in below 50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70, 73 and 78 kg weight categories respectively.   Rahil Sharma, of KPS Barnoti, excelled in above 82 kg category.

Meanwhile, the trials of Hockey and competitions for table tennis were organised at Sports Stadium, Hira Nagar and DAV Lachhipur respectively. Around 70 players of various schools of the district participated in these events. All these sports activities were held under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Subash Chander Bhardwaj. The matches were officiated by Punjab Singh, Pankaj Spolia, Ramesh, Gurusharan Singh and Rakesh Manhas.
