GANDERBAL: District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Dr Piyush Singla today stressed the need for grooming budding sports talent in the district. The DDC made these remarks while chairing a meeting to review sports and youth engagement policy in the district wherein District Level Task Force (DLTF) was constituted to chalk-out the modalities and prepare a roadmap for the youth engagement programs in the district.

On the occasion, the DDC informed that officers from Youth Services and Sports, State Sports Council, Department of Education, Rural Development Department, Police, CRPF, BSF and Army will be the members of DLTF that will supervise the youth engagement programs launched by various departments. He said that district Ganderbal has a huge potential with respect to sports and DLTF committees will help in exploiting this potential.

Dr Singla said that there needs to be constant review and updating of plans being executed by various departments for engaging youth in various sports activates, construction of new sports infrastructure, preparing a calendar for youth activities for the year, making sports clubs and other youth-related activities. To accentuate sports culture at the block level, the DDC allocated blocks to the DLTF committee members and asked them to take responsibility of engaging more youth in sports activities at their respective block levels and show the results on the ground.

Reiterating the focus of maintaining existing sports infra, especially playfields and develop new ones, the DDC asked the ADDC Ganderbal, N.A Baba to inspect the works of MaadriMeharban Stadium Ganderbal executed by sports council. He further asked the ACD Rural Development to make DPR of the playfields of the district of all the blocks like Tulmula Ground, SalooraNambal ground, Sindhbal Ground, Goorvan Lar ground, Girls High School Wakoora ground, Safapora ground, playfield in Kangan near Sheikh-ul Alam School.  

The DDC stressed on maintaining the current sports infrastructure within the schools of the district besides constructing new sports infrastructure having urinals, change-room and fencing. The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal, Fayaz Ahmad Lone Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, District Youth Services & Sports officer, Incharge Manager sports Council, besides officers from Police, Army BSF and RR.

SRINAGAR: Director General of Police, J&K Dr. S.P Vaid declared open the 16th J&K Police Martyrs’ Memorial Football Tournament-2018 at Synthetic Turf TRC Ground here today. The tournament is being organized by J&K Police annually under Civic Action Programme (CAP). The opening ceremony was attended by Shri S.S Wazir, ADGP (Retd.), Shri A.K. Choudhary, ADGP Armed, organizing Secretary of the Tournament, Shri Ab. Ghani Mir, ADGP CID J&K, Sh. S.A. Wattali, IGP Armed / IR Kashmir, Shri S.K. Gupta, Director SSG J&K, Shri S.P. Pani, IGP Kashmir Zone, Shri Hafiz Akhter, DIG (Retd.), Shri Bashir Ahmad Dar, DIG (Retd.), Shri Rashid Ahmad Dar, DIG (Rtd.) Shri V.K. Birdi, DIG CKR Srinagar besides other senior retired and serving Police Officers, Civil Officers, Football Association / Sports Council members and huge number of spectators. 

 

The DGP J&K, Dr. S.P Vaid in his address said that the tournament is being conducted regularly from 1998 in memory of martyrs of J&K Police to pay tributes to them. DGP said that this tournament not only provides us an opportunity to remember hundreds of police personnel who have laid down their lives for the nation but also provides an opportunity to the players and budding talent of the valley to show their capability.

He disclosed that last year police spent approximately ₹3.00 Crore for various sports activities in the State. He said that an amount of ₹131.00 lakhs was spent for conducting sports festivals at district, range and zonal level during the last year. For promoting the rural sports and other activities, ₹40,000/- each was distributed among the 193 Police Stations across the State. Highlighting the youth engagement endeavors of J&K Police, the DGP said that the Police Organization under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) provides Desks, Computers Stationery to the poor students. It also conducts Bharat Darshan Tours for the Students of the State. 

Dr. Vaid said that in order to attract more and more talent to J&K Police a sports policy has been submitted to the government for consideration. He said that Ministry of Home Affairs has approved two Synthetic Turfs for North and Central Kashmir and hoped that the Synthetic Turf with flood lights will be approved for South Kashmir in near future. He thanked the Central and State government for enhancing the ex-gratia relief for martyr police personnel and SPOs. He said that a martyr police personnel now gets Rs.55.00 lakh while as martyr SPO gets Rs.17.50 lakh. 

Earlier, ADGP Armed J&K (Organizing Secretary of the Tournament) in his welcome speech said that 34 teams across the J&K State are participating in the 16th edition of the tournament. Moreover, he also announced that winner team of the tournament will receive a trophy and a cash prize of ₹1.00 lakh, runners up team with a trophy and a cash prize of ₹75,000/- and 1st runner up team will also be given a trophy and a cash prize of ₹50,000/- which will be increased in the next year. The DGP J&K also witnessed the exhibition cum inaugural match played between J&K Police Veteran XI and J&K Football Association Veteran XI which was won by JKFA in penalty shootouts. Chief guest presented mementos to all players of both the teams and winners and runners up trophies to J&K Football Association Veteran XI and J&K Police Veteran XI respectively.
