SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has complimented international shooter from the State, Chain Singh, for winning silver medal at International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup at Munich, Germany. In a message, the Chief Minister, who is also the President of the J&K State Sports Council, said that she believes firmly that the youth of the State are full of potential to compete at national and international events and it is only a matter of platform that they display their talent. More than 817 shooters from 84 countries participated in the event, with India fielding a 31-strong contingent. Chain Singh, it may be mentioned here, also represented India in last Olympics.

JAMMU:  JTGC has become quite a hot-spot for golfers from across India and abroad. After Shubhankar Sharma, JTGC witnessed presence of another golfing legend, Ali Sher and welcomed him to the beautiful lush green 18-hole golf course located at Sidhra.

Ali Sher’s journey to the top echelons of Indian golf is the proverbial rags-to-riches story. Starting as a caddie at the Delhi Golf Club, Sher went on to make it big in the sport. In 1991, Sher became the first Indian professional ever to break the foreign stronghold by winning the much coveted Indian Open title following which Sher was conferred with Arjuna award in the same year. Sher’s Indian Open victory was indeed a seminal moment for golf in India and the tonic Indian golfers were looking for. Ali Sher repeated the magic in 1993, when he beat Feroz Ali by just one stroke. Sher’s stunning victory opened the floodgates for a new breed of talented golfers and he was honoured with many club memberships including honorary membership of the Delhi Golf Club.

While his visit at JTGC, Sher interacted with  Manav Gupta, Secretary, JTGC and other reputed golfers and his tips and guidance regarding golfing were admired by budding golfers of J&K State. Sher was impressed with the panoramic 18 hole golf course and praised the efforts of management in its up-keep.

JAMMU: A team of Legal Metrological Department today booked two leading sports item stores here today for violating norms.  As per a handout of LMD, the sports stores were selling items over and above MRP on exorbitant rates thereby cheating the gullible consumers. According to Deputy Controller LMD, the Department received complaints about sale of imported swimming costumes, caps and swimming Goggles   without adhering to mandatory declarations which are necessary for the information of the purchasers. The team of the officers of LMD conducted extensive checking of the stores dealing with sale of such items and found number of discrepancies related to declarations of   MRP and address of the Manufacturer on the Sports items.

 

Rohit Gupta, Inspector Legal Metrology Jammu Lower, booked two leading stores in Gandhi Nagar area and seized deceptive goods like Shuttle Cocks, Sports T- Shirts, Trousers, Knee Cap, Elbow Cap which were not marked with MRP and other declarations. The erring dealers were fined Rs 15000 each with undertaking that the sale of deceptive sports items will not be made by them in future and all purchases be in accordance with the provisions of law  in force for the purpose.
