JAMMU: The Forest Sports contingent comprising of 62 persons leaves for Raipur today to attend 24th Sports meet being held from 9th to 13th January 2019. The Sports meet is being held after 2 years, the last event was held in Hyderabad. The contingent will be participating in events including Badminton, Tennis, Football, Athletics, Shooting, Golf and Indoor Games.

Flagging off the contingent the Principal Chief Conservator Forest, Suresh Chugh said that the contingent has prepared well and they will be doing their best in the sports event and win a lot of medals. He said that Forest Department has very outstanding players who have been winning gold at the National Sports Meet consecutively for many years specially in Billiards, Snooker, Cricket and Football.

The Chief Conservator Forest Sameer Bharti on this occasion said  that sports is very important for keeping healthy mind and body and this also increases the efficiency of the employees. Forest department have selected all the teams under the supervision of departmental selection committee comprising of Chairman, Asif Mahmood, Brij Mohan Sharma, Samuel Changkija, M K Kumar and Sports officer and experts of Sports Council who were present during the selection process. Flagging off was also attended by Forest Conservator East Circle Mohan Das DFO Jammu, DFO Urban Jammu and other officers of Forest Department.

  • CS lauds performance of JK Police
  • ‘Several welfare measures initiated for police personnel’

JAMMU: Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam today lauded Jammu and Kashmir Police and described it one of the best forces in the country which is working in difficult situations to maintain law and order and ensure safety of people.  Speaking at the concluding ceremony of 5-day Police Inter-Zone Sports Meet-2018, organized at Gulshan Ground here today, the Chief Secretary said Government is aware of the problems and difficulties of Police force and several steps for their welfare have been taken by the Governor’s Administration. He said an efficient mechanism has been put in place to address their issues on priority.

Chief Secretary said Mir Committee constituted to suggest measures to be initiated for the welfare of Police, including speedy disposal of promotion cases, seniority and creation of more posts in different cadres for career progression is being examined for implementation. He said 8000 posts in several higher ranks have been created to open the avenues of promotions for police personnel.

He said Government has already announced a housing scheme for the families of the police personnel and initially 10000 housing units will be constructed each at Jammu and Srinagar for which the work will start soon. These units will be provided to the families of needy police personnel on reasonable and affordable prices, he said and added that the Government is also considering sanctioning a substantial risk allowance for the Police Personnel keeping in view the working conditions of the force.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of DGP for organizing this big sports bonanza and said that sports are must for keeping the Police personnel mentally and physically fit and called for organizing such events on regular basis. He said such events provide opportunities to the players to exhibit their talent in different sports activities and help in boosting their moral which lead them to perform their duties more efficiently.

In his welcome address, the DGP Dilbagh Singh informed that as many as 930 sportspersons of six zones, including 775 men and 155 women participated in this inter-zone sports meet-2018. It also includes 38 gazetted officers who participated in different sports events. The games which were played in the meet included Boxing, Hockey, Kabaddi, Athletic, Handball, Shooting, Football, Basketball, Weightlifting, Archery, Wrestling, Tug of War and Judo etc.

He said the Police Department organizes such sports events for its personnel at different places across the State to refresh the minds and brains of the jawans. He said games are the part of the service which provides opportunity to the individuals and as teams to perform on ground and display their skills in different events which boosts their morale. He congratulated to the winners and complimented to all those participated in the event and showing their enthusiasms towards the sports. He called upon the police functionaries to maintain discipline while playing as well as performing their professional duties on ground.

The DGP expressed gratitude to the Chief Secretary for gracing the occasion and attending issues of the Police force on priority. He said active Government support to the Police help in boosting the moral of the force which help in improving their performance on ground. ADGP Armed, A K Choudhary, who is Organizing Secretary of the Sports Meet presented the vote of thanks. He thanked all the participants, especially the Chief Secretary and all senior officers, including former Police officers for gracing the occasion and encouraging the players.

The overall men trophy was clinched by the Armed zone while as overall women trophy was won by Training Zone.  Ram Raj of Jammu Zone who secured three Gold and one Silver Medals was adjudged best Athlete Winner in men’s section while Seema Devi of Armed Zone was declared best Athlete Winner in Women’s Section for securing two Gold and one Silver  Medals.

The Chief Secretary and DGP distributed the prizes and trophies among the winners of the various events. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Secretary Youth Services & Sports and Information, Sarmad Hafeez and several senior and retired police officers, besides large number of sports persons and spectators were present on the occasion.

JAMMU: The Inter Zone sports meet concluded with an impressive closing ceremony held at Gulshan Ground Jammu today. Chief Secretary J&K B.V.R Subrahmanyam-IAS was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is among the finest police forces of the country. He said that government has  taken a number of steps with regard to the enhancement of Ex-gratia for the NOKs of martyred police personnel and the SPOs; created more promotional avenues as well as by implementing Non Functional Grade Scheme for the officers. He further said that more welfare measures are being taken in near future. He also desired that such functions of sports must be held at District and range levels.

DGP, Shri Dilbag Singh thanked the chief guest for gracing the occasion. He said that because of the advisor to Hon’ble Governor Shri K.Vijay Kumar, Chief Secretary J&K Shri B.V.R Subrahmanyam and Home Secretary Shri R.K. Goyal the proposals with regard to the welfare measures of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been decided and implemented in shortest possible time. The DGP informed that more than 950 participants from different wings took part in the Inter Zone sports meet. He said that such events bring in positivity and also provide an opportunity   to the police personnel from different zone to develop new friendships. He said another event of sport “Police Martyrs Memorial” is going on in full swing at Kathua and its final will be played soon. The DGP complimented the winners and the participants.

ADGP Armed Shri A.K Chowdhary while presenting the vote of thanks, briefed about the different aspects of the sports meet. He thanked Chief Guest, DGP J&K and others senior retire/ serving civil and police officers for gracing the occasion. He also thanked the media persons for giving the event wide publicity.

  • Master Malkeet Bajwa bags silver medal at 64th National Games

JAMMU:  Jammu and Kashmir Police Public School has carved a niche in the Chai Kwan Do Championships at all levels viz Interschool, State and National level competitions.  In the 64th National Games held at Durg Chattisgarh, Master Malkeet Bajwa of class 9th of the school has bagged prestigious silver medal, which is a matter of great pride for the school.  The management committee of Jammu and Kashmir Police Public schools headed by Dr Rubinder Kaur Chairperson, and members Mrs Archana Choudhary, Ms Shabnam Mir, Sh JS Johar (Commandant 08 IRP Bn) Nodal Officer of School and Principal Mrs Renuka Guleria today felicitated the winner as well as the participants for their stupendous performance.

 Dr Rubinder Kaur while interacting with the participants conveyed her good wishes and wished them luck for their future endeavours.  She also appreciated the coach Mr Brijesh Bhau for his hard work and dedication.
