The Divisional Commissioner said this during a review meeting of one-week cleanliness drive starting from November 12 to November 19, 2015 held here at his office with the officers from Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Urban Local Bodies. The drive will be started in all 34 Srinagar Municipality wards and 43 municipal committees in all the districts of the Kashmir valley.

Mr. Samoon said that the Kashmir Valley has good community system which needs to be regulated. We have to raise awareness among masses about the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, he said. Asking people to refrain from littering, the Commissioner said people put polythene and other solid wastes into water bodies eventually clogging them.

“We can seek help from people from all sectors like business community, religious scholars, civil societies, NGOs, teachers, and students to raise awareness about the importance of keeping clean surroundings,” Samoon said.
