KUPWARA: The Foundation Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT-1), conducted under the ULLAS–Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, was held today across 301 Samajik Chetna Kendras in 13 educational zones of Kupwara district. A total of 16,447 non-literate learners appeared for the assessment.

The Education Department and school heads made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the assessment was conducted smoothly, transparently and in an orderly manner.

A coordinated team of 1,836 Volunteer Teachers, 301 Superintendents, 302 Supervisors, 13 Zonal Coordinators and 104 Cluster Nodal Persons supported the exercise. Teams from the Chief Education Officer’s Office, Samagra Shiksha, zonal offices and district-level units monitored and coordinated the process. Zonal Education Officers and their teams worked to ensure effective implementation across the district.

Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Manzoor Ahmad Najar, visited several centres in the far-flung areas of Machil, where he interacted with learners and reviewed assessment arrangements.

FLNAT-1 reflects the Education Department’s ongoing effort to expand literacy and learning opportunities at the grassroots level. Through the ULLAS initiative, non-literate adults are supported in building essential literacy and numeracy skills, helping them participate more confidently and independently in society.

The assessment brought together education officials, school heads, Volunteer Teachers and field staff in support of the vision of a fully literate, inclusive and empowered Kupwara.
