GANDERBAL: Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal, who is also holding the additional charge of District Legal Services Authority, Bandipora, Sheikh Babar Hussain today convened a virtual meeting to review the implementation of the 'Pragya' Scholarship Scheme and discuss the identification of vulnerable girl students eligible for scholarship assistance.
The meeting was attended by all Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of District Legal Services Authorities, Ganderbal and Bandipora. During the meeting, the Secretary highlighted the objectives of the 'Pragya' Scholarship Scheme, stating that it aims to provide financial assistance to vulnerable girl students to enable them to continue their education.
He informed that the scheme covers girl students who have lost both parents, those who have lost the bread-winning parent, girls with physical disabilities whose parents are unable to support their education, girls whose fathers are in jail and whose mothers are not earning enough to support their education, tribal girls from economically disadvantaged families, and other similarly placed vulnerable girl students.
The Secretary directed all Para Legal Volunteers of both districts to undertake door-to-door identification and verification of eligible beneficiaries in their respective areas. He instructed them to verify the supporting documents, socio-economic background and living conditions of the identified beneficiaries and submit detailed verification reports to the respective District Legal Services Authorities by July 13, 2026.
The Para Legal Volunteers were further asked to identify deserving vulnerable girl students from their respective villages and areas, wherever required, strictly in accordance with the eligibility criteria prescribed under the 'Pragya' Scholarship Scheme.
Emphasizing the importance of a transparent and sensitive approach, the Secretary directed that the identification and verification process be carried out with utmost confidentiality, fairness and diligence to ensure that the benefits of the 'Pragya' Scholarship Scheme reach the most deserving and vulnerable girl students in Ganderbal and Bandipora districts.
