JAMMU: The Department of Students Welfare (DSW), University of Jammu organized a commemorative programme to pay rich tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, whose life and legacy continue to inspire generations of students, researchers and citizens across the country.
The programme witnessed the participation of members of the university fraternity, students and scholars, who gathered to remember the remarkable contributions of Dr. Kalam as a distinguished scientist, visionary leader, educator and champion of youth empowerment. The event highlighted his enduring commitment to knowledge, innovation and national development while encouraging students to imbibe the values he exemplified throughout his illustrious life.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Prakash Antahal, said that Dr. Kalam's vision continues to serve as a guiding force for the youth and children of the nation. Recalling several of his inspirational achievements, he said that Dr. Kalam's dedication, humility and unwavering commitment to excellence continue to motivate young minds to dream big and work tirelessly towards achieving their goals. He urged students to draw inspiration from Dr. Kalam's life and contribute meaningfully to society through knowledge, innovation and service.
Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, also paid tribute to Dr. Kalam and described him as a symbol of integrity, simplicity and perseverance. She encouraged students to embrace his ideals of lifelong learning, discipline and nation-building, observing that his legacy remains relevant in inspiring future generations to pursue excellence with dedication and compassion.
As part of the programme, a short documentary titled Wings of Fire, based on Dr. Kalam's celebrated autobiography, was screened. The documentary provided an insightful glimpse into his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of India's most respected scientists and the President of the nation. The screening inspired the participants and reinforced the timeless values and vision championed by the People's President.
The programme concluded with the participants reaffirming their commitment to uphold Dr. Kalam's ideals and strive towards building a progressive, innovative and inclusive nation.
Among those present were members of the Campus Cultural Committee, including Dr. Pritam Singh, Dr. Ripudaman Parihar, Dr. Bharti Prabhakar, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr. Sandeep Singh, Dr. P.P. Singh and Dr. Vimal Kishore. The programme was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma, while sound and projection arrangements were managed by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul.
The events of the Department of Students Welfare are organized under the guidance of Prof. Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare; Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee; and Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee. The activities are coordinated by Dr. Pritam Singh, Associate Dean Students Welfare; Dr. Shallu Sharma and Dr. A.R. Manhas, Deputy Chief Proctors; Dr. Harleen Kaur and Dr. Ripudaman Parihar, Assistant Deans Students Welfare; Ms. Mansi Mantoo, Officer Incharge; and Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor.
