SRINAGAR: Considering the high consumption and public importance of bakery and bakery products, the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K, conducted a special enforcement-cum-sampling drive focusing on bakery and bakery products, along with milk and milk products, to ensure their quality and compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
As part of the drive, food safety inspections and sampling were carried out across various districts. During the drive, Food Safety Officers conducted 159 inspections of Food Business Operators (FBOs) and collected 114 food samples for quality and safety testing. In addition, 12 surveillance samples were collected from ICDS Centres to monitor the quality and safety of food being supplied to beneficiaries.
During the inspections, hygiene and sanitary conditions of the food establishments were also verified. Seven FBOs were compounded under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and a fine of ₹11,000 was imposed for violations of the Act. The FDA has requested consumers to report suspected cases of unsafe or adulterated food through the Toll-Free Helpline No. 104 or by email at cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
