JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu concluded Hindi Fortnight–2026 with a grand and dignified valedictory ceremony today. The fortnight was organized from 14 to 30 September 2026 under the joint aegis of the Hindi Cell and the Department of Hindi and Other Indian Languages, under the patronage of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain.

The initiative was aimed at promoting a sense of love, respect and pride towards Hindi as the Official Language, while encouraging its greater use in the University's day-to-day official and academic work.

During the fortnight, a series of literary, creative and Official Language-related competitions and activities were organized for students, teachers, officers and employees of the University. Through various Hindi competitions and activities, members of the University community were encouraged to use and promote Hindi. Students, teachers, officers and employees participated enthusiastically and showcased their talent.

The competitions included various literary, linguistic, creative and Official Language-related activities. Along with students, teachers, officers and employees also participated actively. The activities were aimed at developing interest in the Hindi language while enhancing the participants’ expression, creativity, language skills and confidence.

Speaking as the Chief Guest and presiding over the valedictory ceremony, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, said that “Hindi is not merely a language; it is an idea.” He highlighted that the National Education Policy has accorded importance to education in Indian languages and called upon students to promote Indian languages and pursue education in these languages.

Wishing Hindi a bright future, Prof. Jain urged everyone to pay special attention to the progressive development of Indian languages and culture in order to preserve and strengthen the spirit of Indianness.

Addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor also advised them to remain mindful of the growing influence of social media. He observed that spending excessive and unnecessary time on Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms may affect students’ concentration, studies and time management.

He encouraged students to make productive use of their time through regular study, discipline, yoga and sports, reading books and participating in creative activities. He advised them to set clear goals, respect their teachers and parents, choose good friends and focus on developing their character and personality.

Prof. Jain emphasised that technology should be used for acquiring knowledge, academic pursuits and other positive purposes. He encouraged students not to limit themselves merely to examinations and awards, but to continuously work towards developing their knowledge, personality, language skills, discipline and creative abilities.

Prior to the valedictory session, the University organised special Hindi competitions for students from various schools in the Samba region. Around 80 students participated enthusiastically in the event.

Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Vijaypur; Government Higher Secondary School, Jakh; and Government Higher Secondary School, Taloor actively participated in the competitions organised on the occasion. The students showcased their talent through poetry recitation, speech, calligraphy, quiz and other Hindi-based competitions.

The enthusiastic participation of school students made the programme particularly vibrant and meaningful. The University expressed special gratitude to Ms. Shameem Nazki, Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Vijaypur, for bringing together students from schools in the Samba region and motivating them to participate in the competitions in response to the University’s request.

The University also expressed its gratitude to the principals, teachers and students of all participating schools for contributing their time and playing an important role in making the event successful.

The programme emphasised that the school students of today will become university students in the future. Such initiatives provide them with an opportunity to become familiar with the university environment at an early stage and develop an interest in Hindi and other Indian languages.

Prof. Yashwant Singh Applauds Participation and Confidence. Addressing the participants during the valedictory ceremony, Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Central University of Jammu, said that receiving a prize in a competition is certainly an achievement, but an even greater achievement is having the courage to participate and present oneself on the stage.

He specially appreciated all those students who participated enthusiastically in the competitions despite not receiving prizes. He emphasised that the objective of a competition is not merely to win, but also to overcome hesitation, develop confidence, learn new things and recognise one’s own talent.

He also appreciated the participation of the University’s officers and employees, who took time out from their regular official responsibilities to participate in various Hindi competitions. He further expressed gratitude to the teachers who encouraged students to participate in the activities.

At the beginning of the programme, Dr. Shashikant Mishra, Head, Department of Hindi and Other Indian Languages, welcomed the guests. The programme was conducted by Dr. Vandana Sharma, Assistant Professor. Prof. Bharat Bhushan, Dean, School of Languages, was also present on the dais.

During the valedictory ceremony, prizes and certificates were presented to the winners and participants of various competitions organised as part of Hindi Fortnight–2026.

Students, teachers and employees expressed their enthusiasm and happiness upon receiving the prizes. All the participants were congratulated for their active involvement and encouraged to continue participating actively in activities related to Hindi and other Indian languages in the future.
