JAMMU: The Department of Environmental Sciences, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), under the patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, observed Himalaya Diwas on September 9, 2026, at the University Auditorium. The programme, organised under the theme “Himalaya Hai Toh Hum Hain,” aimed to raise awareness about the ecological significance of the Himalayan region and the urgent need for its conservation and sustainable management.
As part of the observance, a panel discussion and a quiz competition were organised ahead of the main programme, engaging participants in dialogue on Himalayan ecology, conservation and environmental responsibility. The main event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by Saraswati Vandana and the Rashtriya Geet. Distinguished guests were felicitated, after which Prof. Deepak Pathania, Department of Environmental Sciences, delivered the welcome address.
Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar of the University, gave a brief introduction to Central University of Jammu, highlighting its academic programmes, achievements, research activities and contributions towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Addressing the gathering, Sh. Balkar Singh, Social Worker, encouraged participants to plant trees and to keep the campus and surrounding areas clean and green. Dr. Kuldeep Sharma, JK Prant Convener, Sankarshan Gatividhi, recited a poem centred on environmental conservation.
Sh. Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Director (IEDS), MSME-DFO, Jammu, highlighted entrepreneurship and project-development initiatives under MSME, along with opportunities and support mechanisms available to start-ups under various schemes. He emphasised the role of innovation and enterprise in advancing environmentally responsible development.
