BARAMULLA: Reaffirming its commitment to people-centric policing and responsive public service, Police in Baramulla organised 11 community outreach programmes under Thana Diwas at Kitchama, Singhpora, Ushkoora, Raipora, Chuker, Kreeri, Gund Maqsood, Soipora, Kassi, Choolan and Boniyar, with active participation from local residents.
The programmes provided a direct platform for police–public interaction, grievance redressal and community engagement. Residents interacted with police officers and highlighted issues concerning water supply, electricity, drainage, road connectivity, verification procedures, cybercrime and drug abuse. Police officers gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured participants that genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments for appropriate resolution.
On the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), special emphasis was laid on the ideals of national unity, integrity and solidarity, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose vision and contribution played a pivotal role in the unification of India. Participants were encouraged to uphold the values of brotherhood, mutual respect, communal harmony and collective responsibility, reinforcing the importance of unity in building a peaceful and cohesive society.
During the interactions, participants were sensitised about cyber safety, public security and the importance of promptly reporting emergencies through Dial-112. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening public awareness, preventing cyber fraud and encouraging citizens to remain vigilant against emerging security challenges.
Special attention was devoted to the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly among youth. Participants were sensitised about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and urged to actively support anti-drug initiatives, share credible information regarding drug-related activities and work collectively with the police to safeguard the younger generation.
The outreach initiative reflects J&K Police’s continued commitment to making policing more accessible, transparent and responsive to public needs. Such interactions strengthen mutual trust, encourage community participation and reinforce the role of citizens as active partners in maintaining peace, public safety and social harmony.
