JAMMU: A press conference was held today in Jammu, bringing together women leaders and public representatives to highlight the expanding role of women in India’s democratic framework. The interaction took place at the BJP Headquarters, Jammu, where State Spokespersons Purnima Sharma and Rajni Sethi, along with Neha Mahajan, President, Mahila Morcha, and General Secretaries Urvashi Gupta and Poonam Gupta, addressed the media.

The speakers elaborated on the significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, describing it as a transformative constitutional reform aimed at enhancing women’s participation in governance. The Act provides for one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha, State Legislative Assemblies.

They noted that this historic step, brought forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects a strong commitment towards strengthening inclusive democracy and ensuring greater representation of women in decision-making processes.

Emphasizing the evolving role of women, the speakers highlighted that women’s empowerment today extends beyond representation and has become a key driver of social and economic transformation. They pointed to the growing participation of women in education, entrepreneurship, and public life.

The leaders also underlined the significant rise in women’s electoral participation. As per recent data, women constitute nearly 48.62% of the total electorate, with voter turnout reaching approximately 65.78%, in several cases even surpassing male participation. However, representation in legislative bodies still remains comparatively lower, making the effective implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam essential.

As part of an outreach initiative, a Women’s Bike Rally has been announced to be held in Jammu on April 12, 2026. The rally will commence from Mubarak Mandi and conclude at the Press Club, Jammu, and is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from women across different sections of society.

The rally aims to celebrate the spirit of women’s empowerment and to acknowledge the progressive steps taken towards strengthening women’s role in governance. It will also serve as a platform to showcase unity, confidence, and the rising leadership of women in Jammu & Kashmir.

The speakers extended an invitation to women from all walks of life to participate in large numbers and contribute to making the initiative a meaningful success, reinforcing the vision of women-led development and a more inclusive India.
