JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu (CUJ), through its University Health Centre, organized a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospitals, Jammu, at the DRDO Building on the University campus.
The camp was organized under the guidance of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Jain, with the objective of promoting voluntary blood donation and creating awareness about the critical need for safe blood to save human lives. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Vijayata Puri, Senior Medical Officer, Central University of Jammu, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, officers, staff and students. More than 50 units of blood were donated during the camp.
The initiative forms part of the nationwide voluntary blood donation campaign being observed from 17 September to 2 October 2026, culminating on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Sanjeev Jain highlighted the significance of blood donation as one of the noblest acts of service to humanity. He stated that a single unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives and encouraged members of the University fraternity to actively participate in such humanitarian initiatives. He appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Central University of Jammu and Government Medical College, Jammu, in fostering healthcare awareness and social responsibility among the youth.
The camp witnessed active participation from students, research scholars, faculty members, officers, non-teaching staff, and volunteers who came forward to contribute towards this noble cause. A dedicated team of doctors, medical professionals, and technicians from GMC and Associated Hospitals, Jammu, carried out the blood collection process while adhering to all prescribed medical and safety protocols.
The programme aimed to instill a sense of social commitment, compassion, and community service among the University fraternity while contributing to the availability of safe blood for patients in need. Participants were also sensitized about the importance of regular voluntary blood donation and its vital role in strengthening healthcare services.
The event concluded with the distribution of appreciation certificates to the donors and an expression of gratitude to all participants and collaborating agencies for making the camp a success. The University Health Centre reaffirmed its commitment to organizing similar health awareness and outreach programmes in the future, reinforcing the message that “Every Donor is a Hero.”
