JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K General Secretary and former Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria hailed the strong measures announced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to crack down on drug smugglers and trafficking networks, terming the initiative a decisive step that would crush the drug network in the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir.

Describing the initiative as a “firm and transformative step,” Billawaria stated that the administration’s zero-tolerance policy reflects an unwavering commitment to eradicate the drug menace, which has been adversely affecting the youth and disrupting the social fabric of the Union Territory. He expressed confidence that the comprehensive strategy outlined by the Lieutenant Governor will significantly weaken and ultimately dismantle organized drug networks operating in the region.

Appreciating the provision for confiscation of properties of those involved in drug smuggling, Baldev said that targeting the financial assets of offenders is a key strategy to break the backbone of such illegal operations. He said that this step would not only ensure strict punishment for offenders but also serve as a strong deterrent against future involvement in drug-related crimes.

He also welcomed the decision to cancel important official documents such as passports, driving licenses, and Aadhaar cards of individuals found involved in drug trafficking. He said that these measures will effectively restrict the movement and functioning of offenders while underlining the seriousness of the government’s resolve.

Baldev further lauded the move to freeze bank accounts of accused individuals, emphasizing that choking financial channels is essential to uproot drug trafficking networks completely. He stressed that strict prosecution of ringleaders would ensure that those masterminding these illegal activities are brought to justice in a timely manner.

He asserted that sustained and consistent legal action is necessary to permanently curb the drug menace and urged enforcement agencies to act firmly, fairly, and transparently while implementing these measures.

Referring to the launch of the 100-day “Drug-Free J&K” campaign, Baldev Singh Billawaria described it as a major initiative aimed at encouraging public participation in eradicating drug abuse. He highlighted that awareness, vigilance, and community cooperation are crucial for the success of such campaigns. Billawaria added that the ongoing campaign reflects the Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi commitment to building a healthy, drug-free India and expressed confidence that these efforts will yield lasting results in J&K.

Billawaria appealed to all sections of society, particularly the youth, to actively support the administration’s efforts and contribute towards building a drug-free, healthy, and progressive Jammu Kashmir.
