• Youth Empowerment Programme session urges students to practise cyber hygiene and stay alert to online scams

JAMMU: The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir, organised a digital safety awareness session at Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, Jammu, on October 27. The session was held under the government’s Youth Empowerment Programme.

Cyber expert Vikas Razdan of the State Investigation Agency (SIA) served as the resource person. He sensitised participants to cyber hygiene, phishing, online scams, privacy protection and the responsible use of social media. He also explained common tactics used by cyber fraudsters and outlined precautions to help people avoid becoming victims.

Razdan advised students not to share personal information or one-time passwords (OTPs), to verify links and messages before clicking, to use strong passwords, and to report cybercrime promptly through designated platforms.

Deputy Director Information (PR), Jammu, Moksha Dogra spoke about the Information Department’s initiative and said the Youth Empowerment Programme aims to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to become confident and self-reliant. Stressing that digital awareness is essential in today’s connected world, she encouraged students to use technology responsibly and share awareness with their peers and families. A large number of students attended the session, actively interacted with the expert and received answers to their queries.
